The Event Process: Step 1 Concept and Ideas
In 2018, we celebrated 25 years of delivering world-class events by delving into the archives and counting down our #25 most memorable moments.
This year, we’d like to share some of the incredible events we’ve worked on which highlight both our proven operational capabilities and our expertise in other areas of the event management process.
To kick off, we’re focussing on concept and ideas.
The Event – Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Sponsorship Leverage Programs and Brand Activations
SoldOut was the Official Event Management Company of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and delivered half of the spectator engagement, fan zone, brand activation and sponsorship leveraging programs on behalf of key stakeholders.
The Client – TAFE Queensland
Being a leading education provider and government organisation, TAFE Queensland was a unique brand to work with. Given SoldOut’s knowledge of the Gold Coast Organising Committee’s (GOLDOC) systems and processes, workflows, deadlines, internal programs and operating systems, we were the ideal partner to deliver TAFE’s sponsor program, efficiently, effectively and on budget.
Our approach
To ensure TAFE Queensland’s desired objectives and outcomes were met, we conducted internal round table discussions, investigated successful previous brand activations and explored new technologies before presenting some of our “dream big” concepts to the TAFE team. From there we refined our ideas through intensive workshops and presentations to TAFE executives and their GC2018 program leaders.
Being the Official Event Management Company for the Games, and having assisted with the development of the Games’ operational plans, our concepts were already qualified against timelines, outcomes, budgets, venue requirements, access, operational plans and organising committee expectations.
The outcome
Our position as a Games supplier meant we could save our customers valuable time and financial investment from the outset by only presenting concepts we knew were in line with the organising committee and rights holder’s requirements, whilst maximising the brand’s objectives and messaging.
We brought our ideas to life through sketches and renders so TAFE Queensland decision makers could see and feel exactly what the activations and spaces would look like before we went ahead with production and installation.
