Team Profile: Thomas B. Staunton

Name: Thomas B. Staunton
Nickname: T-Staunt’s
Title: CEO
Number of years with Sold Out Event: 25 in total, haha. I think this is a trick question for me!.
Describe yourself in three words.
Energy is contagious.

What does your role at Sold Out Events entail?
My role includes supporting our incredible team members by providing assistance and/or guidance, filing emails (haha), ensuring the business is continually and proactively progressing in the right direction. I am fortunate to share the role with our Managing Director, Kim Voss. I think Kim puts it best, “if you want a long lunch, call Tom, if you want something delivered, call Kim”.

What do you like most about your job and what do you like the least?
I LOVE our team the most – they are positive, fun, professional, efficient, productive and deliver the most incredible results with big smiles! I least like filing emails, haha.

How did you get started in the events industry?
I actually grew up in the industry, being on-site at events since I was literally born, even before Sold Out!. So events are a huge part of who I am….

Do you travel for my job?
YES. A LOT! Sold Out has taken me all over Australia, several times… planes, trains and automobiles. My favourite location has to be home. There are so many amazing places we have been lucky enough to enjoy, but nothing beats coming home.

What has been your favourite event/activation to work on and why?
We are so lucky that we have amazing clients and the opportunity to be a part of amazing, world-first events…. But my favourite event has to be the National Welcome Home Celebrations for the Australian Olympic Team every 4 years. The energy, excitement and adrenalin are incredible!.

What is something about your job that most people wouldn’t know?
I’ve never carried a clipboard! Haha. But seriously.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve seen or done while working on an event/activation?
We set up a giant inflatable baseball field on the flight deck of USS Constellation in Sydney harbour and got a tour of the entire ship.

Have you ever met a famous person while working on an event/activation?
Yes, I have spent quite a bit of time with a few famous people actually, including; Seal, Bon Jovi, Heidi Klum, Jason Statham, Amy Poehler, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Jimmy Buffet, Martha Stewart, Lilly Cole, Albert II Prince of Monaco, Dolce and Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Sting, Macy Gray, Bono and The Edge from U2 – ok, I think that’s enough!!

If you could swap jobs with anyone else in the company for one day, it would be:
“Alan”, our coffee man. He is only there for 20mins! Hahahaha.

If you had to pick a movie title to describe your job, it would be:
Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Do you have a party trick? What is it?
Yes. Ordering one of everything on the menu.
