CASE STUDY: WATERPOLO BY THE SEA – SYDNEY HARBOUR EDITION
In early 2015, Sold Out were approached with an idea, some might even say a crazy idea. To produce an international water polo match, in Sydney Harbour. But not just anywhere in Sydney Harbour – under the shadow of the Harbour Bridge, along side the international cruise terminal, next to Sydney's most exclusive hotel and across the water from the world renowned Sydney Opera House.
With belief in the vision of event owner and 4x time Australian Olympian (water polo) – Mr Thomas Whalan, we solidified Sold Out's involvement immediately, including a partnership agreement. Over several long months, our teams sifted through a maze of legislation, outdated regulations and risk-adverse administration, to keep the dream alive. Finally gaining unanimous approval and support of the event from all agency stakeholders, to proceed with the event.
From the custom, 'international regulation' inflatable water polo field with shark proof netting that we produced, to the absolute sell-out general admission, preferred viewing and corporate hospitality / VIP areas, to the week long hosting of the Italian Men's Water Polo team, to the blue skies and glorious sunshine.....the event was a resounding success, that, left all stakeholders asking when the event would be back again.
This event was subsequently shown on National television around Australia and also National television around Europe.
